As we gear up for the start of the NFL regular season, we have one more slate of preseason games to get through.
For teams like the 49ers, these reps are very important as they work with a new starting quarterback in the 2021 No. 3 overall pick, Trey Lance.
After San Francisco elected to hold Lance out of its preseason opener against the Vikings, the second-year QB made his preseason debut against the Packers last Friday. He only played two series total, but Lance didn’t waste much time showing what the Niners’ offense could look like with him as the lead signal caller.
In his second and final series of the game, Lance connected with rookie wide receiver Danny Gray for a 76-yard touchdown to give 49ers fans plenty to be excited about.
Lance completed 4 of 5 pass attempts, throwing for 92 yards and a touchdown to kick off his first season as the team’s starting quarterback.
The Niners will face off against a Texans team that is 2-0 in the preseason after picking up wins over the Rams and Saints.
Second-year QB Davis Mills threw for 96 yards and a touchdown in Houston’s preseason opener, but he only played a handful of snaps in their second contest. The name to watch — especially for fantasy purposes — is rookie running back Dameon Pierce, who was held out of the Texans’ second preseason game, leaving speculation that he has won the starting job.
The Texans selected the Florida product in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft and he could be a fantasy sleeper to have on your radar moving forward.
